Today I went looking for a bike, because it is pretty necessary in Copenhagen. Gas is to expensive and everything is fairly close, so biking is extremely popular. While I was walking to an area north of my apartment where bikes are supposedly cheaper, I came across what I thought was a park, but noticed there were tombstones surrounded by trees, bushes, flowers, etc.
I found out that it is called the "Assistens" Cemetery of Copenhagen. It began as a burial site in 1760 and has many famous, both Danish and American, people buried there. This includes Hans Christian Andersen , the Danish writer who wrote The Little Mermaid, as well as the famous American jazz musician, Kenny Drew.
There were people just strolling through like it is a park, people running, biking, and people having picnics. I wish we had something like this in the US.
